During our geography unit this term, 3W participated in a simulation of what it might be like to live in a rural village in India.
This lesson introduced students to ideas about what it is like to live in a place where water is not necessarily clean or readily accessible, and promoted discussion about how this may influence life in positive and negative ways. Students were given a list of tasks to complete, such as washing and ‘cooking’ potatoes, doing the laundry and watering the garden. All groups had the same tasks, but one group had easier access to a water supply than others. Every other group had a container to fill at the ‘well’ (a tub of water in the playground). Students certainly appreciated the fact that we have clean, running water at school afterwards!
